Our Lady of Pillar Nursing Academy is owned by the Sisters of Charity of St. Anne and managed by the Our Lady of Pillar Trust, a religious congregation of Roman Catholic sisters. The congregation was founded in 1804 in Spain during the time of Napoleon Bonaparte, following the French Revolution.
The founders, Fr. John Bonal and Mother Maria Rafols, initiated their mission to serve suffering humanity. Their work began at the Royal Hospital of Our Lady of Grace in Zaragoza, where they dedicated themselves to caring for the sick, wounded, orphaned, and the poor. Inspired by the charism of the founders—Universal Charity (Love without Frontiers)—the sisters gradually extended their mission beyond Spain by establishing communities devoted to serving the poorest and most needy through the practice of hospitality to the point of heroism.
The congregation expanded its mission to India in 1951. Today, the congregation has nearly 60 centres across two provinces in India, actively engaged in the fields of healthcare, education, and various apostolic and social services. Following the legacy of the founders, the sisters continue their mission with dedication and compassion, striving to uplift society by serving the poor, the sick, and the marginalized. Special emphasis is given to the education and professional formation of young women in the nursing profession, enabling them to become competent healthcare professionals and responsible citizens who contribute to improving community health.
Our Lady of Pillar Nursing Academy was established with the aim of preparing competent and compassionate nurses for the healthcare system. The institute started the Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) programme in 2015, which is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), Gujarat Nursing Council (GNC), and the Government of Gujarat.
In 2017, the institute introduced the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) three-year diploma programme, recognized by the Government of Gujarat, Indian Nursing Council, and Gujarat Nursing Council.
In the academic year 2022–2023, the institute further expanded its academic offerings by introducing the B.Sc. Nursing Programme. The programme is affiliated with Gujarat University and recognized by the Government of Gujarat, Indian Nursing Council (INC), and Gujarat Nursing Council (GNC).
Our Lady of Pillar Hospital, the parent hospital of the institution, is a 100-bedded comprehensive healthcare centre committed to providing quality medical services to the people of Sanand Taluka and surrounding areas, irrespective of caste, creed, or religion. The hospital is dedicated to excellence in patient care, nursing education, and community health services.
